The wellness industry often talks about body detoxification, especially as warm weather approaches. But detoxification is more than physical—it’s also a continuous internal cleansing process that occurs on many levels. Our body heals and repairs based on our mental and emotional states, too.
Unfortunately, we often overlook our emotions. However, for better physical health, it’s essential to uncover and manage hidden frustrations, anger, resentments, or fear and replace them with forgiveness, love, joy, and hope.
I experienced this firsthand last December after a series of personal losses. The death of a beloved family member coincided with profound soul searching and left me spinning. My body crashed and demanded deep rest on all levels—mind, body, and spirit.
How did I overcome the resentment I had felt for months?
I paid attention to my physical and emotional bodies. There are many ways to achieve this, and here's what worked for me:
- I focused on accepting what I couldn't change.
- I journaled about my feelings every day.
- I wrote positive affirmations about aspects of my life I want to change and goals I want to achieve.
- I practiced gratitude through journaling or meditation in nature—I love walking meditation on the beach.
- I disconnected from all sources of media.
