Come Craugh with Me

Laugh-until-you-crySometimes, you just need a good CRAUGH.

My girlfriends and I have a competition: who can make the other CRAUGH: half cry, half laugh. Basically, it’s when you laugh so hard, you cry. It’s the best kind of stress relief. We all need it. I crave it. As a matter of fact, I think in lieu of medication, doctors should start prescribing a daily dose of craughing; just like a vitamin.

What are some things that tickle me?

-The show Schitt’s Creek on POP TV. If you haven’t watched it, you don’t know what you’re missing.

-Babies who laugh repeatedly at any adult performing silly antics. Now that’s some good medicine, right there.

-My entire family. Each person is hilarious in their own right.

-Stand-up comedians: the good ones. Anyone who can make fun of themselves in front of an audience is my hero.

-Me: bathing suit shopping. #comedy

-My friend and freshman college roommate, Annie. Her sense of humor is BEYOND and her delivery is priceless. Her facial expressions alone get me going.

-Any Mel Brooks film. Period. End of story.

-My husband. He has a really great, stealth sense of humor and he knows exactly when to use it.

-James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke YouTube videos. Priceless.

Kim-Miles-Craugh-With-MeI think now, more than ever, the world could use a bit more laughter. There are too many things that aren’t at all funny with what’s going on in the world. In fact, they are just downright sad. It’s proven that laughter releases dopamine and other endorphins in the brain which help trigger the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Not to sound trite, but everyone deserves a bit of a break from reality every once in a while. It’s necessary to relieve our system of constant, relentless stress and laughter is a great way to shake things up.

When I’m feeling a bit blue, I just hop on YouTube and go straight to James Corden’s channel where he has oodles of Carpool Karaoke episodes. For those of you not familiar, James “spontaneously” picks up one of the world’s biggest stars in his car to help him get to work and they are filmed singing karaoke on the drive to the studio. One of the funniest videos I’ve seen recently was when Cardi B appeared on an episode. Irrespective of your opinion of Cardi B, the BEST part of this video is at the 11:30 mark where they are discussing where she could perform for an older demographic. They end up at a senior center where they crash an exercise class and Cardi B dances with one of the seniors, Gunter. I thought I was going to wet my pants. Take a look:

So, in the spirit of celebrating spring and giving ourselves a bit of a break, do yourself a favor: take some time to make a list of all the things that bring a smile to your face or make you break out in a belly laugh. And, if you’re lucky enough, the next time something really tickles your funny bone, you’ll find yourself in a comical state of craughter. No Rx needed.
