As a result, the questions that keep them up at night often go unanswered.

Why Money Is Triggering For Women

Sadly, I’ve seen examples of this reality my whole life. Growing up, the subject of money in my family was like walking through a field of landmines. My parents fought over money all the time. I had no idea until much later that money conversations were a hot button in most households, and why most people (especially women) avoid the subject.

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Certified Success, Money & Business Coach, I’ve had a front row seat to the money concerns successful women kept under lock and key until we met. The stress of not knowing, the pressure to have the answers because they are so successful everywhere else, and the constant worry that something important may fall through the cracks was their normal.

Meet Toni

Toni was a woman I will never forget. Working with her was inspiring. She was the type of client who showed up ready for change. Every exercise, every assignment was done thoroughly and completely. If I were to give her a grade, it would be an A+. Toni took my advice and did the work. As I tell clients, hiring me alone won’t help you achieve your goals; you must do the work!

Toni was single, never married, and didn’t have any children. While working full-time in a high-level career, Toni was the primary caregiver for her two elderly parents. When they passed, Toni did what many women in her situation do – she turned her attention to herself and her future.

The Questions That Kept Her Trapped

She reached out to me during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though she worked her entire adult life and was a diligent saver, she didn’t feel confident she saved enough to stop working, and like many, had no idea how much savings would be enough. 

And, beyond the money questions, she worried about the void retirement might create, and how to fill it. She had no clear picture of how she would spend her time or what life would cost until we began working together.

Clarity Changes Everything

By working together using the 90 Day Wealth Coaching process, Toni’s perspective on her future changed dramatically. Our coaching conversations helped her envision her retirement life clearly. I encouraged her to imagine a big, bold life, and slowly she began to get excited about the potential of ending the career that she enjoyed for decades. After analyzing her financial position, we discovered that she was in the enviable position of being able to retire whenever she wanted. She gave herself one year to prepare for her next chapter, then chose a date to retire and stuck to it.

A Life Well Lived – On Her Terms

Toni enjoyed checking items off her bucket list – home renovations, travel, time with family, and volunteering. She loved pursuing her dreams, finding joy, fulfillment and feeling a renewed sense of purpose every day.

Timing Matters

Tragically, Toni died after a brief illness. She had a couple of years of freedom and adventure during her too-short retirement. After she passed, her brother called me and thanked me for the work we did together. He said she mentioned me often, saying if she didn’t decide to stop worrying about money and get answers to her questions, she probably would have continued to work because she didn’t know any other lifestyle.

Her inspiring journey affirmed the importance of creating a life of purpose and financial freedom. Working with Toni gave me a much-needed wake-up call to take my own advice.
